Women of PLT & MWG Apparel have partnered to bring job-specific Women’s PPE to Prominence
We are happy to announce we have partnered with Women of Powerline Technicians. We plan to support their mission to have women as equal participants in trade and technical roles in the electricity sector. Our contribution is the enhanced accessibility of women’s PPE, specifically women’s FR/ARC and high-visibility clothing, for those working in electrical utilities.
Women of PLT & MWG Apparel have partnered to bring job-specific Women’s PPE to Prominence
We have been a Canadian leader in the technical design and manufacturing of PPE, specifically flame-resistant and arc-rated clothing, for the electricity sector. Our role in the industry has been to supply end-users with products that provide tested protection, ensuring the safety and comfort of workers across Canada. We’ve worked with experts within the industry to educate and better understand the role clothing can provide in the safety of workers. Our presence in the Canadian electricity sector has allowed us to connect with great companies and organizations, who are helping to push the industry – and our society – forward.
An organization we have had the pleasure to connect with recently, is Women of Powerline Technicians. Women of Powerline Technicians, or Women of PLT, is a not-for-profit organization that officially launched in 2016. Initiated with the intention to advance diversity and inclusion in the electricity sector, their work with a wide range of firms across Canada has led to the development of programs to support women throughout their careers in trade and technical roles. Reducing barriers and providing support for women entering traditionally male-dominated sectors, is a necessary step toward creating an inclusive workforce that is better reflective of our society.
The Mission
Our goal with this partnership is to build on the Women of PLT’s progress in the industry, and address an issue that many women working in trades and technical roles have faced. Finding personal protective equipment and safety apparel that is actually designed to fit women’s bodies, has not been easy. Producers have neglected the demand for women’s PPE, because of historically low demand in the industry.
MWG fell in that category for far too long. It wasn’t until a meeting with a young engineer about ten years ago, when she expressed her frustration with the FR/ARC clothing she was being provided by MWG, that we recognized the need for women’s specific PPE. Since then, we have worked tirelessly to create a comprehensive line of women’s FR/ARC and high-visibility apparel. We plan to further develop and expand our women’s safety apparel line with the experience and expertise from Women of PLT.
The Future
In this partnership, we hope to combine our experience to create the most comprehensive women’s selection in the industry and ensure its availability to women across North America. In working with experts in the field, like the members of Women of PLT, we will be better suited to address the nuances of women’s PPE.
Looking forward, our goal is to eliminate a significant barrier women have identified when entering a male-dominated sector, and help to create a more inclusive and diverse workforce in the electrical generation and transmission sector in Canada and North America.
