Why an insect repellent cream is better than a spray when you’re wearing FR Clothing
When the weather warms up and the bugs begin feasting on your skin, the same issue arises year after year. Whether you’re working deep in the bushes or within city limits, you’re likely having to deal with some sort of critter while at work or play. Usually, the solution to this problem is solved by a basic insect repellent. However, when you’re working in a high-risk environment, where there’s the potential of an arc-flash or flashfire, dousing yourself in a highly flammable substance isn’t the smartest thing to do.
Wearing flame-resistant (FR) clothing is necessary for your protection on many job sites to protect yourself from the aforementioned risks of flashfires and arc-flash. In many cases, these risks are associated with outdoor work, where insects can wreak havoc. Insects like mosquitoes and ticks often make working outdoors in summer months unbearable and unsafe, especially when you’re unable to cover yourself in a classic bug-spray. It’s important to protect yourself from potentially harmful insects, without having to compromise the protection your FR clothing provides.
We can’t endorse using flammable sprays while wearing our FR clothing, but there are other options for skin protection. There has yet to be a development approved in Canada for insect repellent treated FR clothing, but you can cover up beneath your FR clothes. There are numerous creams that you can apply directly to your skin that are proven effective in defending against insects. These creams offer the protection you need without sacrificing any of the safety elements your FR clothing provides.
Our priority is your safety, no matter the product you need. We don’t manufacture our own insect repellent creams; but we are happy to point you in the right direction if you need help staying safe while on the job.
If you’re having troubles finding the right repellent, or have any questions about the potential risks of using flammable sprays, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.
